Purpose of the role
The Clinical & Instrumental Scientist is responsible for:
• Managing and performing internal clinical and instrumental studies
• Organsising clinical and instrumental studies with external vendors
• Validating new Test Methods to support innovative claims
• Drive innovation and expertise in allocated champion area
What will you Do?
Design, conduct, analyse and report studies following the defined process
• Work with Formulation Chemists and Claims team, recommend optimum methodologies available in the Clinical & Instrumental Method Library to meet project objectives within cost, timing and resources available
• Prepare Study documentation
• Administer and conduct specific standard studies according to established methods and study protocols
• Analyse data and form scientifically valid conclusions from studies
• Quality Control of test data and documentation
• Schedule external studies with external clinical research organisations, receive reports and process according to established procedures
• Create and distribute standard study reports to Sponsor within agreed timelines
• Present project and study findings to team members and key stakeholders as appropriate.
Maintain Clinical & Instrumental Excellence
• Have full understanding of standard in-house instrumentation including the measuring principle, what it measures and why it is used
• Perform standard studies using in-house instrumentation with competence
• Expand team knowledge of in house instrumentation by interaction with suppliers, literature searches, and engagements with external contacts.
• Maintain Clinical & Instrumental Excellence by regularly discussing tools and protocols with stakeholders.
• Regularly share knowledge and present relevant study examples to R&D audience (Chemists/ Nutritional Scientists) to maintain and promote clinical and instrumental research.
• Knowledge of external CROs and their capabilities.
Research
• Perform literature reviews, explorative clinical studies in-house and review data from previous studies to expand knowledge into skin, new instrumentation and cosmetic ingredients. Share findings within the team.
• Design, Develop & Validate new Test Methods following the defined Test Method Creation Process
• Develop further expertise in skin physiology, active ingredient mechanisms and skin evaluation and efficacy testing, staying current with latest academia and industry research.
• Generate, share and communicate insights from scientific conferences/events/visits, competitor analysis and research investigation outputs internally to team or to a wider internal audience.
• Support relevant Oriflame's innovation processes and workshops. Propose ideas for innovative claims generation and new test method investigation in line with Oriflame's strategy.
• Assist in the translation of scientific data into consumer-relevant claims.
• Share research findings with R&D stakeholders
Quality and Administration
• Adhere to team Quality processes and procedures, support other team members to deliver processes to required timelines
• Support team administration duties
• Design standard study analysis templates for in house basic instruments. Update existing Work Instructions/ Test Methods / Standard Operating Procedures
Your background and your qualifications
• Minimum degree qualified in a relevant scientific discipline
• Knowledge of the usage and benefits of cosmetic ingredients will be an advantage
• Professional written and verbal communication skills in English
