hela Sverige AstraZeneca is now looking to hire a Business Development Associate Director / Director within Pharmaceutical Technology and Development. Placement for the role is at our site in either Gothenburg Sweden, Gaithersburg US, Cambridge UK or Macclesfield UK.
Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PTD) is the bridge that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices for new medicines and providing expert technical support to all AZ's commercial drug substances and products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients.
As PTD Business Development Associate Director / Director you will lead all aspects of a business development project and driving the business process for pharmaceutical innovations with the aim to create new implementable business opportunities for PTD. You will work closely with the PTD Science & Innovation Directors to progress ideas through selection, testing and prototyping with the aim to deliver a business value proposition (business case). You will be accountable for providing business insight and compiling and delivering the business case to the appropriate decision maker or governance body and completing the business transaction.
In addition, you are expected to contribute to the PTD Business Development team's objective to partner or divest technologies identified to be outside of AZ's main strategic areas to enable development and commercialisation of such technologies and allow them to provide benefit to patients.
This role also gives you the opportunity to work within an extensive internal and external network. The relationship with PTD technical functions, Pharmaceutical Sciences, iMEDs and TAs will be critical in ensuring that the right outcome is achieved. You will also need to establish wide network with technology developers & providers and universities as well as an active participation on key conferences and meetings.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Drive business thinking and contribute with business development input to a value-focused innovation process with decision points, readiness assessments, funding principles and high-quality selection and business evaluation to take a new technology concept into full scale implementation.
* Drive and lead development of high-quality business cases describing the opportunity with associated business benefits and risks.
* Provide business development expertise to the wider PTD in business evaluation of external opportunities and companies.
* Negotiate collaboration agreements and tailor relevant deal structures and negotiate contracts.
* Develop together with business analyst, innovation lead and external providers relevant technology landscaping activities.
* Contribute to the scouting and evaluation of opportunities from universities and industry partners.
* Establish external and internal networks cross PTD and AZ to support the advancement of the scientific discipline and to identify and capture business opportunities
* Establish and use productive interfaces with other business development functions within AZ (BDO, iMed, GMD, Ops, and GPPS)
* Act as an ambassador for creativity and innovation and facilitate the wider understanding of how PTD can influence patient value
* Facilitate securing Intellectual Property strategies and maintaining freedom to operate as a business
* Contribute to AZ being regarded as partner of choice by third parties
* Participating member of PTD Business Development Team, having a key role in shaping, building and implementing the business development strategy.
* Ensure that all aspects of business development are delivered in compliance with AZ best practice and applicable standards and guidelines
Essential Requirements
* A solid scientific background in the pharmaceutical industry.
* MSc qualification in one of the main scientific areas - chemistry, biology, pharmacy, preferably combined with a MBA.
* A track record of project leadership and delivery.
* Experience of working with and leading cross-functional teams.
* Ideally a solid experience in business development and stakeholder management.
* Excellent communication skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of discipline, culture, and expertise both internally and externally.
* Excellent team working and networking skills.
* Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex situations and information in order to provide strategic clarity and opportunity.
