Department of Economics
SLU is a world-class university in biological and environmental sciences, with a vision to play a key role in the development of sustainable life, based on science and education. Within this framework, the department of economics (link) constitutes an important platform for research and teaching in business and economics, with an emphasis on applied science, often in collaboration with the university's natural science subjects. Our research and teaching is focused on knowledge and understanding of the sustainable use, management and governance of natural resources, as well as the value chain for agricultural products. The department includes four research groups: environmental and natural resource economics; agricultural and food economics; decision making and managerial behaviour; and entrepreneurship and innovation for sustainability. In addition to research, these groups provide teaching at bachelor's and master's level in business administration and economics. The department also includes the AgriFood Economics Center (www.agrifood.se), a collaborative initiative with Lund University on behalf of the Swedish government that provides economic expertise to decision makers in the areas of food, agriculture, fishing and rural development.
The department has its main location in Uppsala on the Ultuna campus, with a smaller unit in Lund, and consists of approximately 65 employees, including 15 doctoral students, who are to a substantial degree financed using external research funds, from e.g. Mistra, Formas, the EU and the Swedish Research Council.
Over the past 20 years, we have built the research group in environmental and natural resource economics into one of the leading groups of its kind in Sweden. Now we have the opportunity to strengthen the group and the goal is to further strengthen our profile as an internationally recognized environment for research and education in the subject. Read more about the research group at the following link.
