We are recruiting an Associate Principal Scientist to the Physical & Analytical Chemistry team, responsible for NMR spectroscopy, at the department of Medicinal Chemistry in Early Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity (RIA).

Medicinal Chemistry in RIA is focused on the delivery of Small Molecules (SM) and New Modalities (NM) in the early drug discovery portfolio. The Physical and Analytical Chemistry team is crucial for achieving this - working with a strong research focus in close collaboration with scientists from other departments. We jointly aim at the discovery of the respiratory medicines of the future.
What you'll do
We are looking for an experienced candidate with a strong scientific background in NMR, a passion for analytical research combined with scientific curiosity for small and large synthetic molecules. The candidate is expected to support drug discovery projects by applying structural and physical chemistry approaches to provide expertise in the characterization of SMs and NMs. As an experienced NMR-spectroscopist the candidate has the ability to engage and collaborate across therapeutic areas and other functions with a problem-solving attitude and delivery focus.
We will rely on you to provide
* Optimal support of the early drug discovery portfolio by application of NMR
* Hands oncharacterization of SMs and NMs
* Effective collaboration with team members and colleagues in Medicinal and Computational Chemistry
* Driving internal science in the field of NMR Spectroscopy and Analytical Chemistry
* Contribution to internal and external visibility through publications, posters, conference presentations and participation in local/global AZ workstreams
Essential for the role
* PhD in Analytical Chemistry with focus on NMR Spectroscopy and >5 years professional experience.
* Expert in NMR (In-depth, hands-on expertise and state of the art knowledge of methods including structure and conformation analysis)
* Strong scientific track record
* Strong scientific curiosity in novel technology and methods
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills
* Demonstrated expertise in large synthetic molecules and / or Vibrational Circular Dichroism is a plus
