We offer thousands of audiobooks and ebooks to customers in thirteen markets, with several new markets launching in the coming year. Storytel is Northern Europe's largest audiobook streaming service and we are looking for talented and driven developers to join our tech team and help build dedicated android hardware for our hundreds of thousands users.
About the role
In 2018 Storytel moved into a whole new space of technology when we developed and released our first piece of hardware, the Storytel Reader. Storytel Reader is an e-ink tablet very similar to e.g. a Kindle, on which users that subscribe to Storytel can access and read from the vast e-book catalogue available in our service. The hardware itself is developed by a partner of ours and is running a slightly modified Android firmware. On top of that we run the Storytel Reader android application developed in-house by our app developers. Our next step is to customize and improve the default built in firmware and device drivers.
We are looking to hire someone with experience in developing custom android-based firmware and device drivers in Linux kernel space. You will be our first recruit within this area, and will have endless possibilities to grow in this role as our embedded team are meant to grow as we increase our portfolio of hardware devices. You will work closely together with app developers, backend developers and designers.
We have our headquarters on Riddarholmen in Stockholm but our teams are distributed geographically between Stockholm, Lund, Umeå and Copenhagen. This position is not dedicated for a specific site, any of our four sites are available for this position.
Your Qualifications
• Fluent C programmer.
• Experience in customizing Android device drivers.
• Experience developing in Linux kernel space.
• Experience building and deploying Android firmware.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
