hela Sverige The Programme Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a "Vacuum Lead Engineer".
Description of position/department
The Design Office contributes to the overall design and integration of ESS. Main areas are Cad and Data Management, Design Engineering and Integration. The work is performed in remote-design collaboration with our partners around Europe.
Description of main responsibilities
The successful candidate will establish and lead the engineering for the ESS Vacuum System. The immediate focus will be on liaising with internal and external groups to define standards and coordinate the design engineering work.
A main focus will be to work with coordination, standards and guidelines together with leading and contributing to the specification and requirements for the ESS Infrastructure.
The candidate should have a tracking record of leading a group of engineers.
The Vacuum Design Group will support ESS and take responsibility of the Vacuum engineering.
The mandate of the Vacuum group concerns the design, operation and maintenance of the vacuum systems.
In addition, the successful candidate should possess a broad, demonstrated knowledge of accelerator engineering and physics. In particular the candidate should have a thorough knowledge of cryogenic systems, RF accelerating systems, control systems, beam instrumentation and in the integration of such systems with at least 10 years experience in constructing and/or operating a large scientific facility.
Qualifications
• Master of Science or equivalent in Electrical Engineering and/or equivalent.
• A minimum of 10 years experience in leading a larger group of design engineers.
• A minimum of 10 years experience in the implementation of engineering activities as coordination, standards,guidelines and standardisation. Previours experience in existing Accelerators, research reactors or Spallation sources will be advantageous.
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.What ESS can offer

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world's most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials - from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
