hela Sverige The Swedish Museum of Natural History is a government agency with a mandate to promote knowledge, research and interest in our world. It is a prominent research institution and Sweden's largest museum. For more than 200 years, the museum has been collecting specimens and data and conducting research on life on earth. The collections contain more than 11 million plants, animals, fungi, environmental samples, minerals and fossils. All research and knowledge are shared in the exhibitions, Cosmonova and in activities at the museum and digitally.
WORK TASKS
In this project you will utilize a unique and unprecedented genomic dataset to reconstruct the demographic histories of the entire avifauna of the worlds largest tropical island through the Pleistocene, an epoch of massive climatic change 2.6-.01 mya that shaped the distribution of life on earth. You will test a fundamental yet largely unproven hypothesis: that warming and cooling events in earths recent history led to corresponding increases and decreases in the cold adapted montane species and the warm-adapted lowland species of the tropics. By revealing how tropical faunas reacted to past climate change, you will provide historical context for predicting populations response to global warming, and launch a new direction in climate and biodiversity research.

* Doctoral degree
* Exceptional good knowledge on the avifauna on New Guinean
* Good knowledge on processes that have shaped the biodiversity in the Indo-pacific
* Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
