At Volvo Materials Technology in Gothenburg, we are a team of about 30 passionate engineers who enjoy what we do. Our team is built by teamwork and engagement, having fun together and supporting each other in our daily work. Materials Technology is organized within the department Verification, Testing and Materials Technology. We are serving Volvo Group and selected external customers in the field of applied materials technology. We offer competence and development resources for product and process development. We have a modern and very well-equipped laboratory for material analyses and for testing of materials properties. Our specialists work globally in the whole product lifecycle from early phase development to maintenance. This is what you will do
As one of our two Test Engineers, you will be a problem-solver for almost 30 material experts where you will be responsible for the whole sample preparation process from cutting and sawing to grinding and polishing a large variety of components made of a large variety of materials
Take responsibility for the equipment in the lab connected to sample preparation, e.g. hot work room and goods receipt and buying consumables when needed
Drive method development within the sample preparation area, e.g. together with the supplier develop and tailor polishing programs for different materials
Keep updated and continuously benchmark the state of the art within the area and thereby be proactive and plan for future investments within the area of responsibility, which also includes preparing documentation for investment decisions
Perform tasks in the chemical lab supporting the rig testing as well as performing simpler hardness measurements
Perform non-destructive testing
The position is based in Gothenburg. Travel may be needed occasionally

Other qualifications are:
BSc Materials Science or upper secondary school with relevant experience
Enjoys and is skilled at hands-on work and can demonstrate a strong track record
Experience from laboratory work
Experience from work with sample preparation
Experience from workshop environment
Basic knowledge within metallic materials
Basic knowledge about processes for cutting, grinding and polishing metallic materials
Basic knowledge in chemistry and relevant analysis equipment
Good analytical skills, i.e. use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Very strong sense for being accurate, organized and well-structured
Curious and strong willingness to learn. Enjoys when being challenged and wants to learn continuously
High working capacity. Enjoys having a lot to do
