The IVT group performs applied research and development with the primary goals to increase traffic safety and transport efficiency. Our mission is to secure strategic technologies, innovations and competences for the Volvo group business areas. The Intelligent Vehicle Technologies group are specialists in two main research areas:
Safety and Behavior Analysis - Tools and methods for the understanding of underlying factors of accidents and safety impact assessment. This involves e.g. operative field studies and the quantification and modeling of driver behavior. This knowledge may be used to develop strategies for information-, warning- and intervention in a driving context.
Driving Assistance Systems Development ? Development of functions to assist the driver in order to improve safety and efficiency. Examples of such functionality are; lateral and longitudinal vehicle control, vehicle automation, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, collision avoidance, monitoring of driver drowsiness and distraction, etc.
We work in an international and multidisciplinary environment, where we collaborate both with other Volvo Group companies and with partners in the international automotive research field.
Description of the position
You will join our multinational team of research and development engineers. Your main role is as a research engineer performing applied research in the area of quantitative safety and behavior analysis area. You will also acts as a technical liaison with engineers and researchers in Asia and Brazil. You will have opportunity to lead research and development projects and work in an international environment in the forefront of automotive research.
Your work will include:
Safety and sustainability impact assessments
Development of methodologies and metrics
Analysis and modeling of driver behavior
Field operational trials
Human-subject experiments
Cooperation with international sites
Project management
Algorithm and signal processing
Experience and qualifications:
You have a PhD degree in Engineering Physics, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or similar. You have a well documented ability to perform research. In your PhD work you have most likely focused on traffic safety, active safety or quantitative driver behavior, or a related area.
You have strong skills in several of the areas listed above. You also have a keen interest in aspects relating to human factors. In your role as technical liaison multi-cultural experience, people-skills and language skills are very important. You speak English fluently. Japanese and Portuguese language skills are considered an advantage.
Experience of tools such as; Matlab, Simulink and CANalyzer are considered an advantage. License for heavy truck (C or CE) and general commercial transport experience are highly valued.
As a person you are driven, innovative and you have a passion for problem solving. You have strong theoretical and analytical skills. You are open-minded and outgoing and enjoy team work and can take advantage of a multi-disciplinary research environment. You are able to work independently and drive research on your own.
