You will be part of ABB Corporate Research in Västerås. We are the largest research center within ABB with world class expertise and state-of-the-art resources to support innovation in the areas of both power technology and automation. Our multicultural research center consists of approximately 250 scientists from 45 different countries. Corporate Research offers access to a wide network within ABB and the opportunity to develop your skills in diversified research and development projects on all levels of complexity. The position is a 6 month temporary position at Corporate Research, being a good platform for further development of your career within ABB.
Tasks
Increasing amount of renewable energy sources in the modern power grid increase requirements on controllability of power system stability and load transfer capability in the existing power grids. Also, the short circuit level is changing due to the introduction of converter connected renewable energy sources in the power grids. The position is particularly focused on digital simulation and modeling of transmission systems for stability studies for grid models with high amount of renewable electric power.
Qualifications
You are expected to create and execute research and development projects in a cross-disciplinary and international environment. As a part of ABB Corporate Research you will work with dynamic, motivating and creative teams with a wide range of experience and competence with access to highly advanced laboratory facilities. You shall demonstrate the ability of challenging existing design and engineering practices. We require that you have a Ph. D. or similar experience in electric power systems or related topics, have knowledge of electric power system dynamics, stability, and control. Also a good understanding of the dynamics of renewable energy sources in a power grid is necessary as well as experience of software such as DigSilent Powerfactory, PSCAD, and Matlab. Finally competence in power electronics is also appreciated.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is a prerequisite while Swedish skills are advantageous. It is of equal importance that you are a driven person who own initiatives and creativity to deliver high quality results in the projects. Last but not least, you have a strong interest in technology and operational development.
