The department of Safety Electronics has been a rapidly growing part of Volvo Car Group over the last decade. Active Safety is an area where Volvo, through continuous launching of new and innovative and world first safety features (such as City Safety and Full Auto-brake with pedestrian detection), has positioned itself among the leaders of the automotive industry. Within the department we develop systems such as Collision Avoidance, Autonomous Drive, Full Automatic Parking, Driver Support and Protective Safety. To do this we use sensor systems based on sensor technologies such as Radar, Laser, Ultrasonic, Cameras and Accelerometers. Through Sensor Fusion, these sensors are combined to create an awareness of the vehicle surroundings that can be used by various Driver Assist and Safety Functions to support the driver. Our department has the mission to develop the next generation active safety system. We are involved in all aspects of the product development process, from early research and advanced engineering projects to industrialisation of the systems in all projects.

We are now looking for a Technical Expert to hold the overall responsibility for strategies and development of the Vision based systems. Today's complex active safety system requires precise control based on data from different sensors (e.g. radars, camera, gyros etc.). This requires detailed knowledge of how the sensors are integrated in the vehicle and how data is processed in real time in order to support the best possible end results from a customer function perspective. Your work will be supporting how the vehicles of today will evolve into the non-colliding vehicles of the future; covering safety rating, competitors, academics in the field of active safety.
Are you our next strong team member? The role requires a demonstrated in-depth technical knowledge from the area to provide technical leadership to peers and assure the delivery of product programs. You have high level of communication and teamwork capability as well as experience to lead, teach, coach and mentor internal teams in the delivery of technical objectives.
Main responsibilities

• Support the delivery of quality assured vision based sensing systems to out vehicle programs
• Secure technology readiness for industrialisation by initiating and supervising advanced engineering and research projects (internal and co-financed by the authorities)
• Advice management in technical matters from a Volvo Cars perspective
• Support the organisation in contacts with suppliers and proactively contact potential suppliers
• Secure competence development within the area, by proactively provide education, mentoring and coaching on technical matters (including review of technical deliveries)
• Maintain personal expertise in the area of vision based sensing and follow the research frontier and write patents and publications
• Develop and maintain external relations with universities and authorities

Required qualifications

• M.Sc of Science in Electrical Engineering /Computer Science /Physics or similar
• Demonstrated in-depth technical knowledge from vision design (HW/SW)
• Experience from vision based system development supporting Collision Avoidance and/or Active Safety functions
• Detailed knowledge in Vision signal processing algorithms, methods for vision modulations and camera solutions
• Proficient in matlab
• Capability to analyse on road radar data to find potential issues and identify possible countermeasures
• Excellent English skills, verbally and in writing
• Comprehensive experience from Research and development (Requirement/Methods, Concept development, Engineering or Analysis & Verification), Authorities and Industry is meritorious
• Documented publication record in relevant technical area (paper, patents, reports etc) is meritorious
