Volvo Car Group is now taking a strategic step to strengthen the implementation of strategies for technological leadership through the Technical Specialist Program, which purpose is to develop a strong technical workforce dedicated to innovation, product excellence and continuous improvement of core processes.
As Technical Expert, Simulation Methods and Tools, you have your position at Vehicle & Systems Testing but work cross the complete R&D. Vehicle & Systems Testing use models to simulate the environment around the vehicle and to recreate this environment around the test object in the lab. Models and simulation are also used to replicate the part of the vehicle that is not built into the test object, e.g. if the test object is an engine, the driveline with transmission is modelled and simulated. You will also be leading the work within R&D to develop models that span across different technical areas, both in their coverage as models and usage for CAE and testing.
As Technical Expert you will be responsible for the long term knowledge development of your area within R&D. You will keep a close contact with universities and participate in seminars and conferences outside the company. You have the opportunity to act as a mentor for diploma workers and as industrial supervisor for PhD students.
Main responsibilities
• Support Volvo Car Groups development and verification capability by securing correct modelling, cross methods, test environments and functions
• Deliver, on annual basis, a documented Vision, Mission & Strategy within simulation technology
• Initiate and lead development of simulation technology within R&D
• Technical support within R&D for model development
• Representing R&D with respect to simulation technology both internal and external, as well as acting as a mentor for engineers and PhD students in the area
Required qualifications
• M.Sc. or PhD degree in Physics, Mathematics, Automotive Engineering, Control Theory, Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or similar area
• Minimum 10 years of working experience within simulation technology
• Excellent English skills, spoken and written
• Demonstrated in-depth technical knowledge and leadership in the simulation area
• Experience from model based development
• Strong record of technical innovation/contribution/leadership resulting in implementation within product development
• Experience as team leader, from requirement setting to fulfilled function, is meritorious
• Documented publication record in relevant technical area (paper, patents, reports etc) is meritorious
