Your team
You will be working in the Accelerator Development group consisting of a wide variety of experts within the accelerator field, including accelerator physicists, RF experts and laser experts.
The Accelerator Development team is a part of MAX IV Accelerator Division, which is responsible for developing and operating all accelerator-based light sources at MAX IV
As a summer worker at MAX IV Laboratory in the Accelerator Development Group, you will primarily work with an experimental setup of imaging with high quality lenses of quite long focal lengths. The setup needs to be carefully protected from influence of the surroundings, like stray light, air turbulence, vibrational sources etc. By evaluating the detected light spot distribution in the image plane, the quality of the different lenses will be assessed. Lenses to be tested are newly fabricated lenses, lenses that has been used in our diagnostic beamlines, and lenses that have been cleaned after use. The contamination on the used lenses is to first order just a simple non-uniform Carbon layer, that affects the image quality. We also want to find out if there is any crystallisation effect in the bulk of the lens material. You will be partly responsible for both the build-up of the measurement setup, the data collection, and for the evaluation of the images.
