About the role
The staff scientist will be placed in the Division for Computational Mechanics and Materials Engineering, which belongs to the department of Mechanical Engineering.
In the division of Computational Mechanics and Materials Engineering, we foster an inclusive, friendly, and helpful work environment to which we welcome you to contribute. Our activities focus on the modelling of the mechanics of structures, components, and processes along with involved materials, thus providing mechanics-based solutions and virtual solution tools to our engineering challenges.
We are looking for a Staff Scientist to provide advanced technical and methodological support to research projects on structural battery composite materials and concepts. You will play a key role in developing the laboratory's experimental capabilities, supporting ongoing and new research activities, and fostering collaboration within the department and with external partners.
Major responsibilities
As a Staff Scientist, you will suppport research activities through:
• Developing and implementing new experimental methods and processes for the synthesis and characterisation of multifunctional composite materials while maintaining and improving laboratory facilities relevant to structural battery research.
• Training and supporting staff and students in the safe and effective use of equipment and methods.
• Participating in collaborative research projects, both nationally and internationally, and help report results to partners.
• Participating in the dissemination of the results in scientific journals and at international scientific conferences.
• Contributing to the preparation of grant applications and project documentation supporting the laboratory's research activities.
• Assisting in the supervision of bachelor's and master's thesis students.
• Supporting laboratory-based teaching activities.
Your profile
• We expect you to have a Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Materials Engineering.
• We also expect you to have experience in the synthesis of multifunctional polymer composites and in the characterisation of the electrochemical and mechanical properties of such multifunctional composite materials and their constituents.
• Experience in electron microscopy via FIB- and BIB-SEM analysis of polymer composites is required.
