About us
The emergency department at Mälarsjukhuset consists of the emergency department, the emergency ward (AVA), the intermediate care ward (IMA) and the administrative unit. At our clinic we work together as a team; doctors, nurses, assistant nurses, medical secretaries and paramedics. At the emergency department, traditional emergency services are conducted around the clock for medical, surgical and orthopedic patients. Also on call pediatric, gynecology, eye and ear patients.
The emergency department has about 50,000 visitors per year. The CDU is under construction and is planned to consist of 8-10 places when the new hospital building is in place (2026).
AVA has 34 beds for patients belonging to the medicine, surgery, orthopedic and infection clinic, who need up to 3 days of care.
IMA has 4 beds that are planned to be expanded to 8 beds in the new hospital building (2026). All beds are equipped with surveillance equipment and 2 beds with non-invasive ventilation (NIV). The equipment is largely the same as in an intensive care unit, however, there is no access to invasive ventilator treatment.
