Subject area
The subject covers animal care, which today includes the care of sports and pet animals in animal care, as well as rehabilitation and hygiene.
Duties
The position includes teaching in the animal nursing program on basic and advanced level and research in the subject of animal care. Teaching includes course management, educational development, theoretical and practical teaching and examinations. Practical-clinical work and supervision focusing on animal care in collaboration with the University Animal Hospital are also included. Assignments and administrative work at departmental and faculty level can be included.
The senior lecturer will be expected to contribute to the development of the subject animal care, which includes own research in animal care within topics relevant to SLU and supervision of research students. Furthermore, the senior lecturer is expected to actively apply for research funding, publish clinically relevant research in animal care, act as supervisor at basic and advanced levels, and as supervisor / assistant supervisor at postgraduate level. The position also includes collaboration with authorities and other actors in the Swedish animal health care industry.
Qualifications
Eligible to be employed as a university lecturer is the person who has completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence or has any other professional skill, which is of importance with regard to the subject content of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment, who have undergone university pedagogical education quivalent to 10 weeks full-time studies or otherwise acquired corresponging knoledge and demonstrated educational skills. Equal care must be devoted to the assessment of pedagogical competence as to other qualifying conditions.
This position requires the right to practice the animal nursing profession or the veterinary profession in Sweden, and the ability to teach in both Swedish and English. Documented experience of teaching, development work and practical-clinical work in the subject area is a requirement.
Assessment criteria
The basis of the assessment of the appointment is the degree of scientific and educational skill which is a requirement for eligibility for employment. The assessment shall also include the degree of administrative and other skills that are relevant in relation to the subject content and duties of the employment. In addition, consideration should be given to the degree of ability to develop and manage business and staff at universities, as well as the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community and to inform of the research and development work.
When selecting among suitable applicants, special and equal weight will be attached to scientific and educational skills. Personal qualities such as good collaborative ability as well as ability to work independently of others and in groups will also be considered.
Completed doctoral degree with specialization in the subject area and documented experience in course management and collaboration are also a merit.
When assessing the scientific skill, emphasis will be placed on both ongoing research and the ability to independently initiate and conduct
research in the subject area as well as the ability to obtain external research grants.
When assessing the pedagogical skill, experience in the development of teaching in the field of animal care will be emphasized.
