Role Summary/Purpose:
The Consumables Upstream & ReadyToProcess department is expanding into the area of cCustomized cCell culture media development and is setting up a dedicated group to work in this area. The work will be in close collaboration with GE Healthcare R&D Logan (USA; dotted line reporting) and other functions locally and globally.

Essential Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Senior Scientist in the ApplicationCell culture section responsible for custom cell culture media development activities within R&D with focus on spent media analysis, media screening and component effectiveness. The Senior Scientist position is responsible for leading, designing, undertaking and analyzing information from controlled laboratory-based investigations, experiments and trials.
• Responsible for spear heading the customized cell culture media development in Uppsala
• Responsible for leading projects and being operatively active from start to finish including, scoping, costing, execution, reporting and final delivery of prototype cell culture media
• Present and propose designs and capabilities to customers in person and through teleconference (some travel required)
• Oversee the staff's adherence to approved departmental operating procedures
• Work with cell culture section manager to maintain the correct levels of staffing
• Directly supervise employees within the group
• Contribute to the company's scientific external presence
• Build and maintain networks and spread knowledge in the entire organization
Qualifications/Requirements:
• PhD or equivalent competence from cell biology/biochemistry/bioprocess/biotechnology or related area. Extensive experience from upstream industry processes with focus on cell culture work and optimization of culture processes
• Solid understanding of bioprocessing and upstream industry trends
• Cell culture knowledge and expertise in protein expression
• Strong background in cell culture media development
• Experience with media screening and development projects as well as knowledge of cell line behavior and component effectiveness
• Proficiency to provide scientific leadership in a global organization
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work and act cross-functionally in the organization
• Experience from project and team management; strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and coach team members to meet or exceed their goals and objectives
• Structured and organized team player
• Self-propelled
• Demonstrated aptitude for hands-on troubleshooting
• Fluent in Swedish and English both verbally and in writing
• EU work permit
Desired Characteristics:
• Extensive experience (+5 years) from development work in biopharmaceutical industry with focus on cell culture and/or process optimization for recombinant proteins
• Experience from development of vaccine manufacturing processes
• Experience with scale up of mammalian cell cultures to up to 200 liter bioreactors and direct experience with single use bioreactors considered a plus
• Statistical analysis experience, DOE software experience
