Research focus
The goal of the project is the development and finite element implementation of new methods for the numerical solution of surface phenomena. This entails mechanical, mathematical, and numerical modeling aspects. The ability to embed microprocessors that communicate with each other in all sorts of objects, so called "pervasive computing", is a hot topic. Integrating electronics in everyday products and making them "smart" provides a substantial added value and competitive advantage, which represents an important innovation potential of traditional Swedish manufacturing industry and an opportunity to increase its global competitiveness. The goal of this research project is to develop models for individual components easily integrated and parameterized to system models, and to enable electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) modeling of electronic systems at the design stage and to identify the cause of EMC problems. Computational challenges include inverse identification, optimization, and developing finite element models using available software and to implement Cartesian cut cell techniques.
Principal duties
The focus of the position is on computational modelling and experimental model validation of antennas in the context of a close collaboration between academic researchers and industrial partners. The long term goal is to develop the area of computational electromagnetics at Halmstad University.
The first goal for the candidate is to build and refine numerical models for antennas on electronics circuit boards. When this is accomplished, the next goal is to systematically study how different circuit board components interact electromagnetically in the near field and specifically how the antenna properties change. Simulation results must be compared with experimental data at least every six months.
In terms of career prospects, this position is intended for a candidate interested in becoming a permanent member of our team. Subject to availability of funding, and depending on career goals, different types of positions can be created.
The selected candidate will interact on a day to day basis with the core project team, which will consist of about three to four people both from academia and participating industry. The selected candidate will become staff at the School of Information Technology and also participate in the common activities of the School.
The position encompasses a teaching load in courses at the School of Information Technology. The remaining funding comes from the KK-foundation, which means there is a close collaboration with industrial partners.
The majority of school of information technology's researcher are men. We strive for a better gender balance.
Qualifications
The person we are looking for has a PhD in semiconductor physics, applied mathematics, scientific computing, or a related field. Previous experience from electromagnetic compatibility in industry related projects and in electromagnetic modelling in available software such as COMSOL is highly desirable, as is working knowledge of a programming language suitable for scientific computing.
Salary
Salary is to be determined by negotiation. The application should include a statement of the salary level required by the candidate.
Application
The application package shall consist of:
1) a cover letter stating the purpose of the application and a brief statement of why you believe that your goals are well-matched with the goals of this position, together with a description of future research plans.
2) an attested CV that includes at least
- a list of previous degrees, dates, and institution, transcripts for higher-education studies until most recent available
- a complete list of publications and a description of previous research and other work experience and links to online copies of the most important publications
3) contact information for at least three references
