At the Institute of Medicine, Sahlgrenska Academy, is the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition
situated, which conducts research in several areas such as endocrinology, haematology, gastroenterology,
hypertension, pulmonary medicine and allergy and clinical nutrition with research focus on body composition and
energy metabolism. The research is carried out in close collaboration with the health care services, for example
at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
The Sahlgrenska academy, University of Gothenburg, hosts the educational program for dietitians in southern
Sweden. The program is four years with admission once per academic year and has about 135 students. After
three years, students can obtain license as dietitians. The program examines annually about 40 students and
master thesis for about 20 students. Staff at the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition are
responsible for most of the teaching in the program. Furthermore, the department participates with lectures and
exercises in clinical nutrition in the education of physicians, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, dispensing
pharmacists and public health scientists.
Research at the department is funded by national funds and includes methodological and clinical studies, as well
as epidemiological research on the relationship between nutrition and health. The department runs a laboratory
with a research kitchen, were analyses of minerals and stable isotopes can be made
Subject area
Clinical nutrition oriented towards nutritional treatment
Subject area description
Clinical nutrition is about secondary or tertiary prevention, nutritional diagnostics and nutrition treatment in
various diseases / conditions. Clinical nutrition is the main subject of the four-year dietician education offered at
the Sahlgrenska Academy.
Job assignments
Teaching as well as research and collaboration in the subject of clinical nutrition. Development work, supervision
and examination within education on basic and advanced level and research level. Participate in pedagogical
development work and evaluation of all parts of the dietician education. Initiate and independently run research
and development projects within the subject area of clinical nutrition.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education
Ordinance.
Graduated doctorate, Ph.D examination in clinical nutrition or other equivalent life sciences. Documented
pedagogical skills.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the
Higher Education Ordinance.
Pedagogical and scientific skills and experience will be evaluated equally. Documented experience of clinical
nutrition treatment as a dietician. Independent research with own research funding is meritorius. Particular
emphasis is placed on the applicant's collaborative ability and inclusive working methods. Administrative skills.
As the teaching is conducted in Swedish, good knowledge of the Swedish language and ability to express
themselves in writing in Swedish is needed.
The successful applicant may also be asked to complete an educational training program within the first year of
employment.
Employment
The employment is a permanent employment, full-time, at the Institute of Medicine.
Additional information regarding employment
Employment may be combined with an associated position as a dietician. Qualifications for an associated
position then becomes, registered dietician. A desire to be considered for an associated position should be
presented in the application.
