We are looking for two Rock Engineers/Bergmekaniker to join the Kiruna Mine's Rock Engineering team. As mining reaches new depths, your analytical skills, teamwork, and initiative will help tackle the challenges of deep underground mining and contribute to safe, sustainable solutions.
Shaping the future
At LKAB, we are leading the transformation of our industry toward a sustainable future. Just as we aim to reshape the world, we are committed to developing every individual on our team, both personally and professionally. Are you ready to help shape the future of the mining and mineral industry?
Your role
Mining in the Kiruna mine is moving towards greater depths, which brings increased challenges. The Rock Engineering team ensures safe operations and reliable production by identifying hazards and solutions throughout planning and execution. Through close collaboration with planning and operations, the team monitors ground conditions, assesses environmental impact from sublevel caving, and provides forecasts of ground deformation and seismic effects for future planning.
Your main responsibilities will include developing and implementing methods to ensure safe and efficient mining operations. Amongst others you will monitor/analyse seismicity, perform damage mapping, develop/evaluate rock reinforcement plans and evaluate/modify mining sequences. Additionally, you will provide operational support by overseeing and managing other rock mechanical challenges. Finally, you will contribute to strategic rock mechanics decisions within the mine.
What you bring
To succeed in this role, you understand the value of collaboration - not just within the team, but across the entire mining operation. You take initiative, turning ideas into action, and aren't afraid to pick up and drive tasks forward. Your strong analytical skills help you assess situations and identify solutions that are not only technically sound but also relevant and actionable. In a high-paced, operational environment, you stay flexible, shifting focus when priorities change and always keeping the bigger mission in sight.
in addition you bring
A university degree at Bachelor's or Master's level in a field deemed relevant to the position
At least 5 years of relevant work experience ie being at present already a senior geotechnical engineer preferably working with cave mining methods
Prior experience in seismic analysis will be viewed favorably
Experience in project management is regarded as a merit
Familiarity with mine design and drafting software is considered a valuable asset
Fluency in English is required. Swedish proficiency is a plus
What you get
Relocation support for you and your family.
Excellent conditions for settling in. We guide you through the official procedures necessary to settle in the country if you come from outside Sweden. We also provide temporary accommodation for a reasonable period and help you find a permanent place to live according to your personal needs.
