www.cf.gu.se. The Centre for Cellular Imaging (CCI), National Microscopy Infrastructure, at the Core facilities, University of Gothenburg, is one of the leading academic imaging facilities in Sweden providing expertise and access to advanced microscopy to the research community, both locally and at other Swedish universities and abroad.
The CCI integrates and offers both Light and Electron microscopy in the various fields of life science, but also chemistry, physics, material science. Our vision is that the CCI will allow users to think broadly and select the best possible instrument(s), light and/or electron microscope(s), to provide detailed answers to their scientific questions at the highest resolution. The equipment includes several laser scanning (confocal, multiphoton and Airyscan) microscopes, a large number of other fluorescent microscopes, laser microdissection microscope, super-resolution microscopes, as well as a scanning and a transmission electron microscope. The CCI assists researchers in the experimental designing and planning of microscopy experiments and provides the in-depth training for the operation of the microscopes and for specific imaging techniques. Additionally, support is provided in the processing, rendering and analysis of the acquired datasets.
Job Assignments
The CCI is now looking for a Researcher with experience in advanced microscopy. The candidate will assist in the development of light and electron microscopy sample preparation methods that are required to enable novel correlative microscopy technologies. In addition, the candidate will be also involved in the development and application of functional microscopy methods in close collaboration with scientists to apply them to the specific research questions.
The work will focus on development of good routines and work-flows in sample preparation, imaging techniques for light- and electron microscopy and relevant data analysis. You are expected to design and perform experiments in need of advanced microscopy upon request to support a variety of projects in the facility. Technological progress in the relevant fields has to be followed and eventually introduced into the daily facility routine. You will participate in group meetings, attend scientific seminars and conferences. To be a successful candidate you must demonstrate a strong motivation to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. You will also participate in the teaching of graduate and undergraduate students.
Qualifications
Experience in light and electron microscopy are required. You should hold a PhD degree in biology or biophysics or in a closely related field. Previous experience in electron tomography, correlative methods or image processing is advantageous. You should be willing to expand your knowledge in new microscopy techniques and be ready to work in a highly multidisciplinary environment. Ability to work under pressure and in a team, good communication skills in English and organizational skills are essential. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a research background who combines technical expertise with strong communication skills, who has a strong will to aid other researcher in their work, but also the motivation to work independently.
