Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 380 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets. The Institute is composed of the following five departments: the Department of Infectious Diseases, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, the Department of Pathology and Genetics, the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine and the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Job assignments
The successful applicant will work in a project aimed at better understanding the role of non-coding microRNAs and co-factors in the nucleus. Particularly, the successful candidate will work on assessing the importance and molecular relevance of nuclear microRNAs/cofactors in embryonic stem cells and cancer cells.
The researcher will work with mammalian cell culture and embryonic stem cells, cellular fractionation assays, protein-RNA interactions methods (PAR-CLIP and CLIP based methodologies), sequencing based techniques (RNAseq and miRNAseq), stem cell maintenance and differentiations assays, FACS cell sorting, imaging-based techniques, gene expression assays and recombinant DNA work. The applicant will also work with general biochemical/molecular biology assays such as immunoprecipitation, western blotting, gel electrophoreses, cloning, siRNA/shRNA and transfections.
The applicant will be required to advance the projects (design, perform and analyze experiments) independently. Furthermore, the candidate will work as part of a group.
Qualifications
PhD in molecular biology. The candidate should have a publication track record reflecting experience in both RNA and stem cell biology and be proficient in the above listed techniques. A international postdoctoral experience from a leading scientific environment is strong merit.
Prerequisites for the position is that the candidate should have a strong personal motivation, an ability to work in a team and independently and be fluent in English (both spoken and written). A major emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
