The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 380 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
The Institute is composed of the following five departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Pathology and Genetics
• The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Job assignments
The applicant is expected to develop and use cardiomyocyte and organ cultures from mice to study the release of cTnT from living cardiomyocytes. The project involves examination of endocytosis and its involvement in extra cellular clearance of proteins. The project also involves the effect of radiation and DNA-damage on cardiomyocyte biology. The project includes the following techniques: Flow cytometry, immuno-fluorescence microscopy and biochemical analysis methods, cell culture (human cells, mouse cells).
Qualifications
The applicant must have a PhD in a relevant field and should have a strong background in molecular studies of DNA damage and radiation biology. Requirements for the applicant is experience of flow cytometric methods and immuno-fluorescence microscopy for detection of DNA damage as well as ionizing beam sensitivity in cultured cells as well as in patient lymphocytes. Furthermore, the applicant should have experience in cell culture and background in method development. The applicant is expected to be able to work well with other researchers in the group, as well as have good knowledge of English, both in speech and in writing.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) until 190315, full-time and placed at The Institute of Biomedicine, Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine. Starting date as agreed.
