Job Summary

Ericsson Research (ER) is a world-wide organization within Ericsson with the responsibility to do research both in areas where Ericsson today is world leading and in potential new areas. Network, Architecture and Protocols (NAP) is one of eight Research Areas (RA) within ER. NAP works end-to-end on architectures and protocols for the radio access network, core network, transport, and cloud, and on how to optimize, manage, and orchestrate networks and network functions end-to-end based on analytics, policies, and machine intelligence algorithms. We also drive standardization in the areas, cooperate with leading academic institutions, develop prototypes and test beds, and provide concepts and general expertise for Ericsson products and business units.

Job Description

As a Senior Researcher you will drive complex research and participate in advanced research project teams developing new concepts and technologies for future radio access networks like 5G NR, LTE evolution with focus on telecom and transport networking.

You will define and drive research studies, develop prototypes, contribute to relevant standardization bodies, and work with international open source communities to invent novel technologies for radio transport applications for different deployment scenarios based on state-of-the-art development and simulation tools.

You may be a research contact in international fora and towards customers, participate in international projects and long-term university collaborations to drive solutions targeting competitive Ericsson networks products. Those solutions may be described in technical reports, software contributions, prototypes, test-beds, academic papers, standard, and patents.

You, as the successful candidate for this role will be working in an international, dynamic and cross-functional team of world-class researchers with different backgrounds and experiences, including some of the thought leaders and key authorities in mobile communication with international reputation. You will contribute to evolve the mobile technology used by billions of people worldwide with the opportunity to gain valuable experience to pursue a successful career.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience Requirements:

• PhD degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with several years of work experience around Transport networks and Wireless Communications, or similar.
• Good skills in operating systems, open software framework and software development.
• Founded knowledge in transport and access protocols (Ethernet, IPv4/v6, MPLS and related routing protocols) and technologies (switches, routers, optical equipment).
• Good knowledge on radio access networks.
• Drive complex and complicated research, innovation, standardization and cooperation with customers and companies within the research area scope to secure Ericsson technology leadership to support business.
• The candidate must be able to communicate well in English, both in written and oral form.

• Strong analytical skills, eagerness to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
• Rich in initiative, creative, and with strong personal drive and commitment.
• Can communicate with people and find it easy to explain your findings and knowledge to others.
• Extensive experience in applied research or other relevant R&D work.
