The Institute of Medicine is recruiting one researcher to Krefting Research Centre at Sahlgrenska Academy. The research group currently comprises of approximately 20-30 researchers. PhD students and research nurses divided into three research areas; epidemiology of asthma, mechanistic studies of inflammation, and extracellular vesicles, see also
http://krefting.gu.se. At Krefting Research Centre one of the largest epidemiological studies of asthma and lung disease in Europe is combined with basic research into the molecular mechanisms that cause asthma. Cells release small nano-sized vesicles to the
extracellular space. These extracellular vesicles has been shown to have vast biological functions but can also be utilized as vehicles for drug delivery and as biomarker, as several diseased cells release vesicles with altered protein and RNA cargo.
Krefting Research Centre has over 10 years of experience of dissecting the RNA and protein cargo of extracellular vesicles as well as determined the biological function of extracellular vesicles in the immune system and in malignant melanoma.
Job assignments:The assignment involves to co-ordinate the work and projects in a group of approximately 10 people. The applicant is
also expected to work independently with his/her own projects and research questions. The successful candidate will therefore have a central role in the group by independently or in teams with others establish; robust large scale isolation protocols for subpopulations of extracellular vesicles from several different types of samples, characterisation of extracellular vesicles and their cargo, efficient loading of molecules into extracellular vesicles, determination of uptake and deliver of vesicle cargo to recipient cells, establish methods to determine the effect on several different recipient cells, develop detection assays for biomarker discovery, as well as determine the RNA and protein cargo of extracellular vesicles with different techniques.
The assignment involves supervision of PhD students and master students, as well as to assist or be responsible for the writing of manuscripts for publication. The candidate will be in close contact with several collaborators and coordinate the common projects.
Qualifications:To be qualified for the position the applicants must hold a PhD within extracellular vesicles or exosomes with a detailed knowledge in the field of extracellular vesicles. We are recruiting a highly motivated candidate with documented experience and track record from hands-on laboratory work on working with processing, isolation and analysis of extracellular vesicles using different techniques such as ultracentrifugation, density gradient, size exclusion chromatography, NTA and electron microscopy. Furthermore, the applicants should have documented experience from working with cell cultures,
processing of patient samples such as plasma and airway samples, analysis of RNA, DNA and protein with molecular biology techniques. Experience of analysis of RNA and proteins identified with mass NGS/microarray and spectrometry
and isolation of extracellular vesicles from tissue are strong merits for the position.
The successful candidate is expected to be able to work independently as well in collaboration, and must have experience in supervision of students, as well as co-ordinate and allocate projects and work in smaller groups. The candidate should have a track record of publish several scientific articles in peer reviewed international journals, where the applicant has participated to a large degree in the experimental design and in writing the article. Excellent knowledge in written and spoken English is a requirement.
