Modelling Zeolite membranes for effective production of biofuels
The position is at the Department of Mathematics, within the Scientific Computing Group, headed by Prof. Öberg. It is supported by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research via a joint project with the division of Chemical Technology at LTU, where zeolite-based technologies are being developed for the production of biofuels from the waste products of forestry and paper-making industries. The Department of Mathematics has presently about 30 staff working as lectures or researchers, and 20 PhD students.
SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING
Research in scientific computing aims at developing and using algorithms and methods for solving and analysing complex computational problems, using computer science. Large scale, high performance parallel computer systems are employed to perform the demanding calculations which are involved. Both the hardware and software used in this project are at the forefront of technology.
ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE POSITION
The researcher will work on development and application of multi-scale mathematical modelling of properties for zeolites and zeolite membranes, from the atomic level upwards. The work also includes development of computer software, and performing computer simulations, using high
performance computer resources. The junior scientist will work in close collaboration with applied research scientists at division of Chemical Technology. 20% time of the time is reserved for teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION
The applicant must have a Swedish PhD or, in the case of foreign applicants, an equivalent qualification by the end of the application period, and not more than five years ago. This project is multidisciplinary covering physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science. Thus, a strong background in these subjects is essential. Previous experience of computational materials science is an advantage.
SELECTION CRITERIA
For the position the following selection criteria will be used:
Scientific qualifications:
• PhD (including a certificate)
• Documented scientific work and publications
Other qualifications:
• Previous research grants
• Experience of teaching and supervision
