The Department of Molecular sciences is seeking a motivated candidate for a position as research assistant in microbiology with focus on methanogens in cow rumen. The position is placed at the Department of Molecular Sciences, Biocentrum, SLU, Uppsala, but includes also cooperation with the Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, SLU.
The Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU, Uppsala has approximately 110 employees and together with two other departments forms an inspiring research environment at the BioCenter at the Ultuna campus in Uppsala. The department conducts research, teaching and environmental monitoring in the field of inorganic, physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry, natural product chemistry, food science and microbiology. Your task will be to support with laboratory work in an ongoing project related to methane emissions from Swedish dairy cows. The overall aim of the project is to investigate correlations between certain rumen methanogens and cows methane production. The duties comprise mainly laboratory analyses including anaerobic cultivation of methanogens and molecular biological analyses such as DNA extraction, cloning, PCR and qPCR. Documentation and evaluation of methodologies used as well as results are also included in the tasks.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a person with a master's degree in biology, animal science or similar. Practical experience in laboratory work is a requirement. Knowledge in cultivation of methanogens and qPCR is a merit. When recruiting, we will attach great importance to personal qualities.
