hela Sverige The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is seeking a Research Assistant to work on emerging military and security technologies. The Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support to SIPRI researchers. The work will explore the implications of emerging technologies on armaments, arms control and disarmament as well as armed conflicts, peace and security.
The successful candidate will have a strong research profile, an entrepreneurial spirit and a demonstrated interest and knowledge in policy issues related to new military and security technologies. S/he has the ability to work independently.

Main tasks and responsibilities
The RA is responsible for supporting a range of research tasks, including:
• Compile a weekly press review on developments of key emerging technologies - including, but not limited to, artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous technologies, human-enhancement technologies, cyber-warfare and cyber-surveillance technologies;
• Support in data analysis;
• Contribute, upon request, to project deliverables and SIPRI publications;
• Assist in developing projects and funding proposals to support future activities;
• Assist with the organization of conferences and seminars on emerging military and security technologies and/or strategic stability and nuclear risk;
• Assist with administrative and organizational work; and
• Take part in the collective life of the Institute.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following experience and skills:
• A university degree or degrees at a bachelor's or a master's level, in disciplines and topics relevant to this post such as International Relations, International Law, Strategic Studies, War Studies, or Peace and Conflict; Computer Science; Mechanical engineering, Bioengineering.
• Knowledge of current debates on technology and international security;
• Experience with data collection and analysis;
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
While not essential, desirable experience and skills include:
• Good command of software programmes such R, Stata, Adobe Illustrator, Endnote, Evernote, Mendeley
Contract period
The position will start as soon as possible and the contract period will last one year with possibility for renewal.
The salary package will be negotiated individually.
