To the department of Medicinal Chemistry R&I, AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal, Sweden we are seeking an Associate Director Lead Optimization, with the primary responsibility to manage a section of up to 40 medicinal and synthetic organic chemists designing and synthesizing novel chemical entities.
The Lead Optimization section drives our efforts progressing lead compounds to quality clinical candidates. The section consists of four teams of experts in the areas of medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry. The section staff works in close collaboration with scientists from the Departments of Bioscience, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics advancing our project pipeline.
The Role
As leader of the Lead Optimization section you will be responsible for developing our lead optimization capabilities to ensure that the expectations on efficient delivery of quality candidate compounds are met. The role requires in-depth knowledge in the areas of synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. Well developed insights in other important aspects of drug discovery and development are desirable e.g. PKPD, structural chemistry, patents. You will, together with our internal experts, lead the development of the scientific excellence required.
As section manager you will be responsible for the individual development of the section staff, setting objectives and leading performance reviews. Ensuring compliance with the AstraZeneca SHE standards and Code of Conduct are also important parts of the role.
Minimum Requirements
The positions require a Ph.D. degree within the field of organic/medicinal chemistry or equivalent experiences with at least 10 years of experience from drug discovery.
Preferred experience/requirements
The successful applicant is to be structured yet flexible and creative, preferably with experience from industrial drug development. Highly developed interpersonal skills are essential for the position.
