The International Council of Swedish Industry (NIR) and the Swedish Industrial and Metalworkers' Union (IF Metall) have jointly decided to initiate and implement a long-term strategy to contribute to the establishment and/or support of HIV and AIDS programmes at Swedish related workplaces in Sub-Saharan Africa. Through Swedish Workplace HIV and AIDS Programme (SWHAP), individual programmes are now in place at more than 70 workplaces in 8 countries in Africa. The Programme is co-funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) for the period 2009-2012. For more information please visit www.swhap.org.
SWHAP is currently looking for a Programme Assistant. The successful applicant will form an integral part of the SWHAP Secretariat in Stockholm and cooperate closely with the SWHAP coordinators in Africa. The job includes gathering information about the progress of workplace programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa; producing brochures and information materials about the programme; communication with major Swedish corporations and trade unions as well as international and national NGOs and institutions; administrative support to the SWHAP secretariat in handling payments, documentation etc.
The position is fulltime for six months with chances of prolongation. It is located at the SWHAP Secretariat which is hosted by NIR in Stockholm. The applicant is expected to start as soon as possible.
Duties
• Assist the Programme Coordinator in the implementation of the Programme fulfilling quality requirements within the given time- and resource limits.
• Assist in managing external relations.
• Facilitate and assist with general administrative support (including handling of payments, documenting information, arranging meeting venues and correspondence).
• Editing and designing brochures, case-studies, reports, and presentations.
• Coordinate and provide support to major events.
• Update and develop the SWHAP website.
• Performing other tasks as the need arises.
To be eligible, the candidate must fulfil the following professional criteria:
• Have a completed post-secondary education of not less than three years in Political Science, International Relations, Communications, Business or related field. Alternatively, have professional training of an equivalent level.
• Have experience of working in an international environment, preferably with relevant duties in a similar field.
• Sound knowledge and proven professional experience in the areas mentioned in the job duties.
• Excellent command and experience in writing in English.
• Excellent practical knowledge of MS Word and other MS applications, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Ability to respect confidentiality.
The following attributes would be an asset:
• Experience of working with media and press contacts.
• Experience of working with international development and/or working in a developing country.
• Experience of HIV and AIDS specific programmes.
• Knowledge of trade unions and companies.
• Experience in administrative and support activities of a programme.
• Knowledge of other languages spoken in Sub-Saharan Africa (in particular French or Portuguese).
