hela Sverige The University of Borås and the Sjuhärad region in Sweden are hubs for textile manufacturing, design, and trade. The Swedish School of Textiles at the Faculty for Textiles, Engineering, and Business is a centre for competence development within the textile and fashion sectors. This is achieved through educational programmes at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels within the areas of artistic fashion and textile design as well as engineering, business, and management. Competence development is also the aim of research activities and close industry collaboration. The university has developed extensively with a significant number of students, the establishment of new Master's programmes, and extensive research in the textile field: textile material engineering, polymer textile fibres, composites, smart textiles, textile management, as well as textile design.
In order to strengthen our scientific expertise within textile technology, as well as develop research and educational programmes within textile technology, we now seek a professor of textile technology with focus on bio-based textiles.
Job description
Responsibilities include establishing and managing a research group within the research field, including actively seeking external research funding. The research field can include research on the recycling of textile material, the manufacturing of textile fibres from biomass (e.g. cellulose), the integration of textile manufacturing in bio-refineries, textile materials' environmental impact on the textile value chain, and/or the development of new textile material concepts using bio-based raw materials. As professor, you will also supervise students, including doctoral students, and researchers; participate in the development of the Faculty's educational programme within textile technology, and teach at all levels. An important task is representing the university in networks and different groups both in Sweden and internationally within the research field.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with proven scientific and teaching competence and a doctoral degree in textile technology, polymer engineering, materials technology, composite technology, paper and wood processing technology, chemical engineering, process engineering, or other relevant field. You should be able to present innovative and current research at a high international level. You have published internationally in the field in recognised scientific research journals and/or monographs/books.
You have experience in research supervision at the graduate level, both for Master's and doctoral students. A professor must also have undergone research supervision training or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. For applicants who have mainly researched within industry or similar, teaching competence of other character can possibly be judged as equivalent. You are able to communicate in spoken and written English.
We prefer that you have knowledge and experience regarding cellulose-based materials, e.g. cellulose chemistry and physics, cellulose characterisation, cellulose processing into technical products, the production of textile fibres from cellulose, recycling of cellulose-based materials and/or cellulose's value chains. Equivalent experience of other bio-based polymer materials as well as the structural mechanics related to polymer materials, composites, and textile structures is also valuable. Work experience in the paper industry or industry research institutes is particularly desirable, as is a good network of contacts within industry.
