The Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management
The Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management is part of the faculty for Landscape Planning, Horticulture and Agricultural Sciences. Teaching and research responsibilities of the department cover six thematic areas: landscape planning, landscape analysis, governance and management, urban vegetation, cultural heritage, and design of urban landscapes. Teaching and research are multidisciplinary, including the perspectives of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technology. Of special concern is the development of action-oriented knowledge about society and sustainable urban environments through studies of planning and design practices. The department's staff comprises 80 members, active in both teaching and research.

Subject area
The position in the main subject of landscape architecture concerns the design, construction and management of urban vegetation from all its aspects, with the aim to enhance the contribution of vegetation to sustainable and attractive urban environments that can deliver ecosystem services. This includes understanding and knowledge of ecological, dynamic, technical and aesthetic principles for guiding the design, construction and maintenance of vegetation, as well as an understanding of the urban landscape's social and cultural context.

Duties
The professor is expected to successfully lead and develop the subject area urban vegetation at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management. This includes producing scientific publications of high quality, obtaining research grants and developing both research and teaching at all levels, and contributing with relevant knowledge to society. The professor will have a leading role in the development of the landscape laboratory at SLU Campus Alnarp, as well as maintaining existing and developing new national and international networks with academia, business, organizations and society in general. Personnel management and administration of academic staff may be included in the tasks.

Qualifications
The applicant must have a doctoral degree and be an associate professor or equivalent in landscape architecture, urban horticulture, urban vegetation ecology, or related areas and be scientifically and pedagogically skilled within the subject of employment. The applicant must also have excellent skills in English.

Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria for appointment of a professor will primarily be based on the degrees to which the applicant possesses the required qualifications specified for the position. The examination of the pedagogical merits should be given as much consideration as the examination of the scientific skills. Particular emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary research and teaching capacity.

The assessment of scientific skills will consider

• past and ongoing research
• ability to independently initiate and lead outstanding research
• ability to obtain research funding
• experience in interdisciplinary research

The assessment of the pedagogic skills will consider

• experience of planning, conducting and evaluating teaching, supervision at doctoral level, and examination
• ability to integrate of research and a scientific approach in teaching
• pedagogic vision

Furthermore, the assessment will consider the applicant's degree of skills in

• developing and managing activities and staff within the Academy
• interaction with relevant stakeholders and society
• dissemination of information on research and development projects
• demonstrating a practical approach through examples of own design of urban vegetation
