Do you have expertise in mathematical modelling and experience of translational PK and PKPD and its application in drug discovery? Would you like to apply your knowledge in a global company that follows the science and turns ideas into life-changing medicines? Then you could be the new colleague we are looking for!

Our team is growing, and we are now recruiting a motivated individual to join our DMPK department as a PKPD modeller predominantly supporting large molecule projects across all phases of drug discovery within Early Respiratory and Immunology (R&I) at our vibrant Gothenburg site in Sweden.

At AstraZeneca Early Respiratory & Immunology (R&I), we're proud to have an outstanding workplace culture that encourages innovation and teamwork. We are united by our vision to push the boundaries of DMPK science to transform ideas into medicines for R&I patients. Employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energized and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.

What you'll do
You have in-depth knowledge of translational PKPD modelling of a broad range of drug modalities and will provide input from target selection through to candidate drug selection / preclinical development as a Senior Scientist, Associate Principal Scientist (APS) or Principal Scientist depending on your background, experience and skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and apply PKPD models to influence critical decisions in drug discovery and development, including target selection, lead optimisation, candidate selection and early clinical development
• Use PKPD modelling to inform and influence the design of preclinical PKPD studies, contribute to estimation of safety margins and report results and interpretations to project teams and internal governance bodies
• Develop model informed drug discovery/development (MIDD) based strategies for early stage projects and lead the project team discussions on the human dose prediction prior to candidate selection.
• Collaborate with scientists from other disciplines and within DMPK to aid the design of experiments and interpretation of the data generated to define project direction and decisions.
• Responsible for preparing clear presentations of modelling predictions to key stakeholders and for internal governance interactions for the projects you support
• Active engagement and scientific collaboration with the internal and external modelling communities and maintain awareness of literature and techniques relevant to the field

Essential for the role
• PhD in engineering, applied mathematics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology or related field, with a focus on mathematical modelling of PKPD data, ideally in a preclinical/translational setting
• Extensive hands on experience of PKPD modelling using specialist tools such as MATLAB, R, Phoenix / WinNonLin, Monolix, NONMEM or similar
• A good understanding of the principles of ADME and pharmacokinetics and experience in developing translational PKPD strategies and mathematical modelling approaches in support of human dose predictions
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work in cross-functional teams as well as independently

The successful candidate is expected to have a solid PKPD understanding and hands on experience of mathematical modelling (e.g. empirical PKPD models, in vitro-in vivo translation, quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) models).

Desirable for the role
• Experience in pharmaceutical R&D in a project facing role
• Experience in defining quantitative modelling strategies across several therapeutic modalities (e.g. small molecules, oligonucleotides, peptides, proteins, antibodies)

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented PKPD modeller to join a strong team and support the portfolio of a major pharmaceutical company that has science at its heart whilst being based in the wonderful city of Gothenburg, Sweden.
