Vattenfall is one of Europe's largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat. Our main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the UK. The Vattenfall Group has approximately 20,000 employees. We have been electrifying industries, powering homes and transforming life through innovation for more than 100 years. We now want to make fossil free living possible within one generation and we are driving the transition to a sustainable energy system.
Job Description
Do you want to help us lead the transition into a fossil free future, and enable integration of more renewable power production into the European power system? Do you have a curious and analytical mind who likes programming and data analysis? Then we might have the perfect position for you!
Price volatility has skyrocketed across all our power markets during recent years and thus the value of accurate price forecasts are only increasing why we now need to strengthen our Nordic Price Forecasting team with a new talent.
Renewables & Customer Optimisation Nordic is a performance oriented department responsible for optimisation of Vattenfall's Nordic Wind- and Customer portfolio on physical power markets and to provide short term price forecasts used for optimisation of Vattenfall's asset portfolios.
Thus we have a key role for the realisation of Vattenfall's strategy to lead the transition into a sustainable energy system by enabling further integration of renewable energy and new investments in fossil free power. The team is expected to be innovative, high performing and flexible - ready to cope with the rapidly changing dynamics of the European Power market.
The role as Power Price Forecaster / Analyst:
You will be part of our Nordic price forecasting team responsible for forecasting of short term power prices - which are vital in order to maximise the value of Vattenfall's asset portfolio. This is a hybrid role with partly analytical work (data analysis, model- & tool development etc.) and partly scheduled operational work at our price forecasting-desk where you are responsible for running the model and presenting results and explain fundamentals drivers internally to a number of key stakeholders.
This combined role provides an interesting and challenging job with varying tasks. Working at the price forecasting desk will give you a deep understanding about the fundamentals of the Nordic power market. That knowledge will then be essential when analytical- or development tasks, where we expect you to be creative, take own initiatives and think outside of the box when improving models or developing new solutions. IT and data are integral parts of all our processes and in this role you will be introduced to data analysis, advanced forecasting tools, algos etc. You will have a close cooperation with our traders, both for discussions about market fundamentals and scenarios but you will also have the ability to influence market positions.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
Market analysis both short term (price volatility) and long term (input to model development)
Scheduled work (~50%) as Price Forecaster at the Nordic dispatch center
Data analysis, testing and model development (~50%)
Challenge established solutions and initiate new business improvements.
Qualifications
We are looking for a person with:
Relevant University degree of quantitative/financial discipline (e.g. Engineering, IT, Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics or similar)
Programming and data analysis skills (Python, PowerBI etc.)
Flexibility and ability to keep many activities ongoing simultaneously
Fluent in Swedish and excellent skills in English
Our offer:
We offer an interesting and challenging job within one of Europe's leading energy companies and in a vital business area where we expect substantial growth within the next few years. You will be part of a innovative, dynamic and high performing team active in a rapidly changing market which provides quick feedback and reward. Initially you will work closely together with our market leading experts on market analysis and intraday trading and then your responsibilities will grow gradually as you are building knowledge and expertise. Over time you will have great opportunities to influence and steer your career path according to your own aspirations.
