Subject area
The position is in Computer Science, with a principal focus on Artificial Intelligence (Knowledge Representation and Reasoning); demonstrated skills in AI and Design Computing are a welcome plus.
Background
Our aim with this new recruitment is to further strengthen our interdisciplinary research competence at the interface of artificial intelligence, spatial cognition, and design cognition and computation.
Research activities in the area of the announced position at Örebro University focus on artificial intelligence, spatial cognition and computation, human-computer interaction, and design science. Basic research addresses applications in areas such as architecture design, interaction design, media design primarily from the viewpoint of the development of cognitive assistive technology to be used for planning / decision-making. Research is done in close partnership with world-leading corporations in both private and public sectors.
Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree, to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to drive activities at the interface of areas such as:
• Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
• Commonsense Reasoning - Geometric, Spatial and Temporal Reasoning
• Design Computing and Cognition
• Visual and Diagrammatic Reasoning
• Computer Aided Design (CAD, CAAD) - Parametric Design - IFC and BIM
• Architecture and Product Design - Media Design
The candidate is ideally expected to have a demonstrated research background and publications with a focus on one or more of:
• Constraints (CHR, SMT)
• Computational Geometry
• Design computing skills in the context of architecture design, parametric design, IFC/BIM
• Non-Monotonic Reasoning - Answer Set Programming / Logic Programming
The ability to develop prototypical systems is a must. Knowledge or experience / interest with topics in visual perception, and broadly cognitive science and psychology are a welcome plus.
This post-doctoral position is more broadly designed to engage into collaborative research as part of ongoing and outward looking research initiatives at the interface of ''AI, Cognition, Interaction, and Design'' (see CoDesign /
http://www.codesign-lab.org ). Here, an open mind and collaborative work on mixed-methods interdisciplinary research are needed. We expect the candidate to participate in ongoing research, dissemination, and networking activities with colleagues at partner universities and in industry.
Eligibility
Eligible for the appointment as postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in computer science or in related (computationally-driven) subject areas, e.g., design computing, computing in architecture. The doctoral degree should have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that may however also be considered if special grounds exist (leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances).
Assessment criteria
General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well. Particular importance shall be attached to the qualities enabling the candidate to contribute to the future development of both research and education. A demonstrated ability and desire to pursue an academic career is also of importance.
Information
The position is a position for a fixed term of two years. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
