The Department of Dental Medicine in Huddinge focuses on the education of dentists and dental hygienists. In addition, we perform research, dental specialization training and provide patient care by specialist dentists.

Area of responsibilities/description of work
This postdoctoral research position is immediately available in the research group of Dr.

Margaret Sällberg Chen. The position is for a scientist with strong background in microbiology and immunology preferably with good experience in metagenomics studies of human microbiome and inflammation markers in human tissue and blood. The postdoc researcher will be part of a team that conducts research in microbiology and immunology. The work comprises modelling of infection and immunology dynamics and identification of biomarkers for diagnosis and for individualized therapy.  The research requires a high level of competence in laboratory skills, good bioinformatics management and proven ability to communicate the work through scientific publications and seminars.

Qualifications

To qualify the applicant must hold a doctoral degree or a foreign qualification equivalent to a doctorate. A PhD in microbiology, inflammation, immunology, cell biology or molecular biology is preferred. The ideal candidate should have good experience with microbiome metagenomics data analysis, quantitative DNA/RNA techniques, and preferably inflammation marker analysis biochemical assays or FACS of human samples. He or she should also have good organisational, writing and presentation skills. Applicants must be highly motivated and able to work independently and have excellent communication skills in English.

Entry requirements
Scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies may be awarded to individuals who come from other countries with the intention of remaining in Sweden only while obtaining all or part of their education. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish PhD or higher. Having received a salary or other remuneration from Karolinska Institutet during the past two years may be disqualifying.

One requirement for receiving a scholarship for postdoctoral studies is central registration as a postdoc.

Type of scholarship
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies.  This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years within four years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent, is tax-exempt.

The amount is set for twelve months at a time and is paid out on a monthly basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

• A complete list of publications
• A summary of current work (no more than one page)
• Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
• Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)
