The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programmes are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malmö, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the Biomedical Center at Lund University, Sweden.
The researcher will be involved in a research project at the intersection of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
The research group has recently identified that apolipoproteins exert specific effects on the metabolic flexibility in the heart (Diabetes 65:1838). With the long-term goal to explain and improve cardiac function and longevity in the metabolic syndrome, the research group will now investigate the basic science and innovative aspects of this finding. To achieve this the new recruit will perform analyses on rodents with focus on lipid and glucose metabolism. Thereto, the successful candidate will carry out biochemical analyses (ELISA, enzyme-based assays, immunological detection etc) and histochemical analyses, as well as metabolome and transcriptome profiling of tissues. The project will also involve in vitro studies of cardiomyocytes (lipid/glucose metabolism, imaging, etc).
The project runs for two years. The candidate will join an international and highly motivated researcher team at the Biomedical Center at Lund University, and he/she will be an active part of the Lund University Diabetes Center.
Qualification requirements:
• PhD in Medicine, Biomedicine, Life Science or similar
• Extensive track record in rodent in vivo analyses
• Extensive track record in cell culture analyses
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Excellent planning, organizational and problem solving skills
• Documented training in research animal handling (e.g. FELASA)
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position (medicine, biomedicine, life science or similar), completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
Particular emphasis will be placed on experience in cardiometabolic and/or diabetes areas. Previous experience in metabolome and/or transcriptome analyses, in PET scanning and in Seahorse analyses is as advantageous, as is also previous/current postdoctoral training.
Terms of employment:
This is a qualifying position focused on research, with intention to be an initial career step.
The postdoctoral position is a temporary employment for 2 years, full time, according to the agreement "Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor" between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO.
Lunds universitet välkomnar sökande med olika bakgrund och erfarenheter. Vi ser jämställdhet och mångfald som en styrka och tillgång.
