Subject area description
In our research group, we focus on brain tumors in both adults and children, driven by the long-term ambition to unravel their origins, enhance diagnostics, and develop more effective treatments with fewer side effects. This specific project centers on the generation and analysis of nanopore sequencing data from patient samples, with the goal of refining diagnostic precision and identifying key tumor-driving mechanisms.
Duties
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research activities aligned with the outlined project, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis. They will draft and submit manuscripts based on research findings and present results at national and international conferences. Additionally, the position provides an opportunity to take a leading role in the project, contributing to its strategic direction and further development based on personal research interests. Collaboration with colleagues, supervision of junior researchers, and participation in relevant academic activities may also be expected.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.
In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.
Assessment criteria
We are looking for an ambitious and motivated researcher with a PhD in a relevant field and a strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
• PhD in Medicine, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, or a related field
• Experience in generating and analysing high-throughput genomics datasets
• Proficiency in programming tools such as R or Matlab
• Solid biological background knowledge
• Ability to work independently within an agreed framework
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable Skills:
• Knowledge of tumour biology, preferably related to neural tumours
• Experience with Nanopore sequencing

Employment
The employment is full time and temporary, two years with the possibility of one year's extension, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
