Our strongest research areas lie within climatology, biogeochemisty, petrology/geochemistry and applied geoscience. We have bachelor and masters programs in Earth Science and in Geography as well as third-cycle education in several earth-science specialties.
Subject area
Earth Sciences, specializing in hydrogeology / water resourses
Specific subject description
The announced PostDoc position will be part of the hydrogeology research group, which is led by Prof. Roland Barthel. One focus of the hydrogeology research group is developing strategies for groundwater research at the regional scale in particular in relation to climate change. Other research areas are Urban Hydrogeology, Groundwater in Coastal areas and participatory approaches in integrated water management. The group has access to a large park of field and laboratory equipment (hydrochemistry, geophysics, hydraulic tests), which is shared with other groups within department.
The successful candidate will be working within the project The status and future of coastal groundwater, implications for groundwater quality and quantity under increased pressures and climate change funded by the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU 36-2063/2016). The overall objectives of this project are to improve the understanding of the complex hydrogeological conditions in coastal areas in Sweden, thereby contributing to a well-organized knowledge-base of coastal groundwater in Sweden. Furthermore, it will develop guidelines to decrease the pollution and draught vulnerability of small-scale water supply systems and provide Swedish coastal communities with specific tools needed for the planning and management of water supply, wastewater and problems related to contamination of groundwater.
Job assignments
The successful candidate 's tasks will include the collection and analysis of large data sets of geological, hydrological, hydrochemical, climatic and geographic data from coastal areas in Sweden. This will require GIS analysis, multivariate statistics and working with databases . Fieldwork and laboratory experiments will be carried out in relation to selected case studies with the help of Masters and Bachelors students, which the Postdoc will co-supervise. Moreover, surveys and interviews with local, regional and national experts and decision makers will be carried out to achieve the highest possible practical relevance of the research. All findings will be compiled into a knowledge base of coastal zone groundwater in Sweden.
Eligibility
To qualify as postdoc, applicants must have completed a PhD in a subject area relevant for the position or must hold a foreign degree corresponding to a PhD in a subject area relevant for the position. Preference is given to applicants who obtained a Ph.D. no more than three years before the deadline for submission of this announcement. The task requires good computer skills in general. Good proficiency in spoken and written Swedish (alternative Danish or Norwegian) and English is required. Experience from working outside academia is welcome.
