The Department of Design is located at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, one of five faculties at Linnaeus University. Design is a strong force for change and sustainable societies. At the Department of Design, we provide education that offers the student solid design knowledge and a solid foundation in the field of sustainability. Teaching takes place in work teams where teachers with different practical, theoretical and artistic perspectives work together. Through our research, the department contributes to sustainable development.

Field of subject for the position: Design as agent of change
Position: Post-doc, two (2) years, 100%.
Placement: Department of Design, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Växjö, Sweden.
Start date: September 2023 or according to agreement.

Context of position:

As a postdoc fellow, you will be working on the project Earth Logic Design, which is part of a larger funded project on cultural entrepreneurship.

The aim of the project Earth Logic Design is to develop systemic understandings of how design can create cultural, social, environmental and economic values through activities that focus on learning, governing and communication. This means applying design as an agent of change to contribute to lives within the planet's limits and to social justice, instead of applying design solely, or mainly in the service of industry. The project will take place in collaboration with live and digital stage culture, museum based storytelling, cultural practices as a way to develop place, as well as a community of design practitioners working as change agents. It will create a knowledge- and experience-based game plan for design, open to new entrepreneurial organizational solutions and a diversity of economic models.

As postdoc fellow on the project, your work will include:

• Conducting surveys, interviews, field studies into the conditions for designers working to affect change.
• Organise knowledge sharing seminars.
• Engage in speculative and co-creative participatory design research.
• Contribute in the ongoing research activities of the research team.
• Co-author and author manuscripts to refereed journals and other relevant dissemination channels.

The project is located in design. Because of the systemic and holistic approach, it is expected that the candidate has experience from and a willingness to navigate multidisciplinary perspectives.

Other duties include:

• Collaborate with researchers in the Department of Design.
• Create links with leading research groups at international level to further advance the area of design for systemic change.

As part of the post, you are expected to actively participate in the department's working environment and network both internally and externally.

10% of the work can include teaching and tutoring in the undergraduate and graduate programmes of the Department.

Qualification requirements:
Qualified for the position is the one who holds a completed PhD in Design, with a focus on sustainability, norm criticality or adjacent areas. You should have completed the degree no more than three years before the application deadline.

Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or related subject area at Linnaeus University.

To be eligible for this position it is also required to have the ability to speak and write in English.

Assessment criteria:
Qualifying otherwise is:

• Research experience within the mentioned fields, and experience from participatory, co-creative, transdisciplinary research.
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals and relevant dissemination channels.
• Ability to undertake a research project independently and meet strict deadlines.
• Team player willing to work with others and interact with leading academic groups in Sweden and abroad

It is advantageous if you also speak Swedish or a related Scandinavian language to enable interaction with national stakeholders.

The holder of a postdoc position is assumed to have the ability to carry out research within the described area.

Applicants will be evaluated through a qualitative overall assessment of their competences and skills by following the before mentioned order of qualifications. For the final selection, the most suitable applicants will be asked to attend an interview.
