This is unique post-doctoral fellowship offered by the WWF Luc Hoffmann Institute, a boundary organization working with WWF, one of the largest environmental organisations in the world, to conduct and deliver high impact, multidisciplinary scientific research to policy and practitioner communities.
The aim of the WWF Luc Hoffmann Fellows Program is to build conservation science leadership capacity in the countries where this capacity is most needed. Our fellows work at the interface between top academic institutions and the global WWF network, often leading collaborative research teams that combine experts and mentors from WWF, researchers from top Universities around the world, and workstream leads from the Luc Hoffmann Institute. We are only accepting applications from candidates who have citizenship within one of the GEF eligible countries.
About the Urban Sustainability Fellowship
The aim of this fellowship is to work with WWF staff to research urban development potential to help reduce humanity's global footprint while protecting citizen's opportunities for development and well-being.
The successful candidate will spend the first phase of their fellowship (3-4 months) working collaboratively with a WWF office to produce a roadmap for the next development phase of the Earth Hour City Challenge, researching the challenges and trends currently faced by fast growing cities and identifying opportunities to be taken on board by the WWF programme. The fellow will assess key research and synthesis needs linked to WWF's role in fast-growing cities.
During the second phase, the fellow will work in a collaborative research team composed of a WWF lead, an academic lead, and key experts from inside and outside WWF and will identify and develop strategic indicators to monitor cities' progress in their sustainability commitments and actions.
In addition to their research role, all Luc Hoffmann Fellows participate in the Luc Hoffmann Institute Fellows Program, which provides leadership training, opportunities for joint research with other fellows and Luc Hoffmann Institute staff, and participation in the production of a variety of science to policy and practice products including research and policy briefs for end users in the private and public sector.
