Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 2 years from empolyment date

Location: Department of Law, Göteborg

Reference number: PER 2016/607

The School of Business, Economics and Law is recruiting a post doc in Law, especially Ocean Governance Law, located at the Department of Law.

Subject area
Ocean Governance Law

Specific subject description
During the past few years, the Department of Law at the School of Business, Economics and Law, has established itself as the leading institution in Sweden and a prominent one internationally with respect to research focused on complex, policy relevant legal issues pertaining to use and management of the oceans and their resources.

In order to further strengthen the Ocean Law Group and to provide an early career researcher with the opportunity to further develop her or his research profile within a stimulating academic environment, the Department of Law invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position focusing on ocean governance law.

For the purpose of this position ocean governance is widely construed, so as to include the regulation of human activities pertaining to or directly affecting the utilisation and long-term management of the oceans and their resources. The department would particularly welcome candidates wishing to pursue projects relating to management of fish and other marine living resources or marine ecosystem services.

The Ocean Group aims at promoting transdisciplinary cooperation, including the research environment on marine resources at the Department of Economics, School of Business, Economics and Law.

Job assignments
The position includes 80 per cent research and 20 per cent teaching and/or administrative duties.

The candidate is expected to contribute to the research environment independently and in collaboration with other researchers affiliated with the Law Department's Ocean Group as well as by taking part, as appropriate, in trans-disciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will be expected to publish high quality research and contribute to the advancement of the academic environment.

There will be funds available for travel, but the candidate should also seek to attract additional external funding.

Eligibility
The position of post doctor aims to give recently graduated holders of a doctoral degree the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency.

To be eligible for employment as a post doctor, the applicant must hold a doctoral degree or a foreign doctoral degree which can be assessed to be the equivalent of a Swedish doctoral degree. The successful candidate should have gained his/her doctoral degree at the latest three years before the closing date of this call.

A candidate who has acquired a doctorate earlier may also be given primary consideration if there are special reasons. Special reasons are considered to be sick leave, military service, commissions of trust within professional and student organisations or parental leave or other similar circumstances.

Assessment
The applicant who, in the overall assessment of skills and potential, is deemed to be best suited to carry out the identified job assignments will be selected for the position.

Skills with respect to cooperation with the surrounding community and informing about research nationally and internationally will also be assigned importance. The same applies to a documented interest and ability in collaborating over disciplinary boundaries.

The recruitment process can include interviews and trial lectures. The applicants will be asked to provide references.
