hela Sverige Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

Hereby advertises a position as
PhD student in Perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs)
formally based at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM)
Duties
The PhD candidate will synthesize stable organometal halide perovskites with different bandgaps and fabricate efficient LEDs with different colors. The photo-physics of these novel materials and device physics of these LEDs will also be investigated.
Semiconductors based on organometal halide perovskites have shown great success in photovoltaic applications, demonstrating high power conversion efficiency over 25%. At the same time, they also have a huge potential for the design of functional materials and devices with new properties. For example, they demonstrate strong electroluminescence and tunable emission energy, making them a promising candidate for efficient LEDs.
The group led by Prof. Feng Gao is a young and fast-growing research group. The group focuses on solution-processed energy materials/ devices, mainly based on semiconducting perovskites and organic semiconductors.
This PhD position is part of a European Marie Skodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network PERSEPHONe, which brings together 8 academic institutions, 3 SMEs, and 1 multinational company from five EU and 1 EU-13 Countries, and supported by 9 partners. PERSEPHONe's overall objective is to generate new skills, knowledge and innovation for the development of a novel technological platform for photonics based on metal-halide perovskite semiconductors. This will happen by giving 14 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) exposure to a wide spectrum of expertise: materials synthesis, photonic (and optoelectronic) devices and integrated circuits fabrication, characterization, and modelling, upscaling and manufacturing together with a powerful set of soft skills. Crucial for the success of such Programme is the multidisciplinarity and intersectoriality of the network, which will allow the young researcher to genuinely discover and/or feed her/his attitude while having an impact on a relevant scientific and technological field. The entire Network has also the mission of disseminate to various audience (scientific community, young people, stakeholders, etc.) the scientific and technological achievements.
PERSEPHONe Partners are the following: Fondazione Istituto italiano Di Tecnologia (IT), Politecnico di Milano (IT), University of Naples Federico II (IT), Linkoping University (SE), University of Valencia, (ES), Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientific (ES), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (CH), University of Oxford (UK), AMO GmbH (DE), Dectris (CH) and Helio Display Materials Ltd (UK).
During the programme each ESR will undertake 2-3 secondments, each lasting 2 months or more.
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.
Qualifications
The applicant has to have or soon to have finished a Master or equivalent in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or equivalent. It is an advantage to have prior experimental experience of what is described in the job description above-especially that related to materials/device development, device physics, and/or spectroscopy.
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.
The applicant shall at the time of recruitment be in the first four years of his/her research career and have not been awarded a doctoral degree. (This time is measured from the date of award/diploma of the most recent taught degree, time spent for teaching is not considered).
The applicant must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment.
Appointment time
The position is for 4 years. The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. The employment may be renewed for no more than two years at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.
