At the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering our students are studying to be for example innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, communications officers, network technicians and engineers. Here we have the research specialisations of Embedded Systems, and Innovation and Product Realisation. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.
We now open a PhD position within the research environment Innovation and product realization (IPR) and more specifically connected to the Division of Product Realization. Research is of a cross-disciplinary character and addresses several areas, including Information Design, Product and Production Development, Workplace Innovation and Quality Management, and Value-driven Innovation and Foresight. IPR is a dynamic and stimulating research environment with a balanced mix of senior and younger researchers.

Position description
The PhD position is a fixed-term employment through the Higher Education Ordinance 5 ch. The total period of employment is no longer than equivalent to full-time education of four years. The position can allocate maximum 20 % for teaching or administrative assignments.
The selected candidate will perform research in collaboration with leading industrial manufacturing companies (i.e., Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo GTO, Bombardier Transportation and SKF) and other relevant organizations as our collaboration platform MITC (Mälardalen Industrial Technology Center).
The selected candidate will work in one of the recently granted research projects on coordination of digital transformation. The focus of the PhD project is strategy for digital transformation in manufacturing industry. The research project covers research around technology maturity assesments, digital transformation roadmap, organisational structures for and coordination of digital transformation in manufacturing networks.
Qualifications
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
A candidate for the positions must have:
• A Master 's degree, or equivivalent, in a field relevant for the positions and the potential research topics
• Strong interests in research
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to work independently and in teams that might be cross-disciplinary
• Ability to establish and maintain contacts and networks with research partners in academia, industry or other organisations
Other qualifying merits are:
• Interests in pedagogics and teaching
• Interests in pursuing a career in academia
• Skills in Swedish or willingness to learn the language.
