At Volvo Materials Technology in Gothenburg, we are about 40 engineers. We are the global expert function serving Volvo Group and selected external customers in the field of applied materials technology. We offer competence and development resources for product and process development. We have a modern and well-equipped laboratory for material analyses and for testing of materials properties. Our specialists work globally in the whole product lifecycle from the early phase development to maintenance. About the role

You will be a member of the Steel and Surface Technology team. The team is working within a wide technology area, ranging from heat treatment, steel forming, surface tribology, sustainability, additive manufacturing, and welding. You will have a central role in solving issues together with colleagues from different parts of the Volvo Group and share knowledge within the organization. As a Material Engineer at Volvo Group, you will be challenged within a wide range of material analysis investigations related to our automotive components and industrial drivetrains. You will be involved in and performed materials qualification, various of material testing and in phasing out hazardous substances and decreasing our carbon footprint.

To be successful in this role you will need to enjoy working cross functionally, in teams but also on your own, taking initiatives to drive the assignments. You will manage and perform material investigation, perform failure analyses, and write engineering reports with analysis and recommendations for decisions. In this role, you are also trusted and expected to take part in continuous improvements of the laboratory, such as equipment responsibility and method development.

We are looking for a person with teamwork skills with colleagues and internal customers. Taking own initiatives and driving assignments forward is natural for you, from both technical and project perspective. You have a positive mind-set and can-do attitude, with good communication skills and the capability to convey your message clearly. Through your analytical ability, you apply logical thinking and reasoning to assess the pros and cons of different solutions, conclusions, or problem-solving approaches.

Requirements:
M.Sc. in Materials Science within the area of metallic materials, Chemistry, or equivalent education.
A few years' experience within the material field, related to material science or material testing.
Experience and willingness to work in a lab-based environment.
Knowledge in material properties and how these affect component and system performance in technical applications. For example, microstructures, fracture mechanisms and deformation behavior.
Experience in use and operation of laboratory equipment, such as SEM, hardness testing or microscopy.
English proficiency, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Swedish, or the will to learn, is a plus!
Driver's license.
