At Avalanche, we offer a hybrid model where we spend some days in our office and some time from home.

Avalanche Studios Group are looking for a passionate and highly creative Materials Artist to join our AAA division, Avalanche Studios.

As a Materials Artist you will be tasked with crafting cutting edge real-time materials and influence surfacing works for all assets in-game. The ideal candidate will have experience creating both realistic and stylized materials for tileable and unique texturing/surfacing, as well as all kinds of atlas, smart materials and masks, and have an excellent understanding of surfacing and lighting.

In this role, you must feel comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team, who you will be working with to create astounding, beautiful open worlds. You will be expected to help drive the quality benchmark for the discipline whilst managing your time to match the project's goals.

The Position

As a Materials Artist at Avalanche Studios you will collaborate in an interdisciplinary team to create art for all sorts of in-game entities. We expect you to be able to interpret and elevate art direction, and support the surfacing of all types of assets, as per said direction working together with 3D artists, Lighting artists, Technical artists and Graphics programmers.

Required qualifications

• Excellent eye for surfacing and lighting.
• Expertise in all industry common material creation software packages/suites. Shading knowledge is a plus.
• Expertise in UVing for different types of assets.
• Experience with physically-based rendering
• Experience with both realistic and stylized art directions.
• A varied reel/portfolio with clearly-documented artistic accomplishments
• A great sense of technical know-how and functional problem-solving
• Great communication skills

Desired qualifications

• 6+ years of AAA experience, with at least 1 title shipped as Materials Artist.
• Experience with modeling
• Experience with shading
• Experience with photogrammetric asset creation workflows
• Ability to communicate and realize an artistic vision
• Ability to mentor
