hela Sverige Toyota Material Handling develops world class trucks and material handling solutions. And there's a lot going on, both here at home and within the sector - automated solutions, connected trucks and new product markets. It's an exciting time and we're doing very well. Our manufacturing is increasing every year as is our need for competent workers. Profile Background
During radiated EMC-immunity tests, the equipment-under-test (EUT) is exposed to electromagnetic fields inside a shielded test room. The field is swept in frequency and the EUT is exposed from different sides and at two polarisations. During test, the EUT is monitored in different ways to detect any field induced malfunction. When testing industrial trucks, one of the main means for monitoring is logging data on the EUTs internal CAN-buses. When analysing the logged data, it can be hard to correlate any anomalies found with the actual field properties around the EUT at that exact time. Having a monitor device located near the EUT would allow tracking the exact field properties synchronised with other data from the EUT thus reducing the test uncertainties.
Work description
The scope of the thesis work is to design and build an electromagnetic field monitoring device that can be connected to the CAN (Controller Area Network) of an industrial truck. The device shall be able to measure frequency and modulation of the field and to provide an approximate field strength value and indication of polarisation. The measured data shall be reported onto the CAN-bus to enable external logging together with other data from the truck under test. The device needs to be a self-contained unit including batteries, optical fibre interfaces for data transfer, antennae for field detection and all necessary electronics and firmware to process the data. The design must be electromagnetically rugged to function properly in field strengths of 40 V/m spanning over a frequency range from 26 MHz to 6 GHz.
The thesis work spans from RF/antenna design, electronics design and software development.
