1 Licentiate in the research education subject: Ethology
Positive affective states in dogs
There is increasing acceptance for the view that the welfare of an animal is largely dependent on its emotional state. However the methodology to assess these states in animals is poorly developed. Furthermore, since there is more to good welfare than the absence of poor welfare, there is a need to focus on positive emotional states. The aim of the project is to increase the knowledge about behaviour reflecting positive emotional (affective) states in dogs. The interaction with the owner is probably one of the most important factor influencing a dog’s welfare and, in the majority of cases, these interactions are positive. Thus the effect of reunion and different types of interactions with the owner or caretaker will be investigated. Licentiate student position (60%).
Qualifications: A biology, psychology or agricultural undergraduate degree, including at least 30hp in ethology. The applicant must also have at least 2 years previous work /employment experience in an animal science research environment. Previous experience with research dogs and teaching will be considered a merit.
Forms for funding or employment: Employment as a PhD student
