The position
As an Infrastructure manager within the Content Infrastructure team, you will lead a team of 5-10 individuals (sysadmins and infrastructure architects) being their direct reporting manager and operational leader. The operational leader role includes in firsthand foreseeing there is an up-to-date delivery plan, coaching and growing the team members to deliver on the same, as well as coordinate with relevant stakeholder within NENT group in deliveries from design to deploy.
As a direct reporting manager, you manage the staff throughout the cycle, conduct performance and salary reviews and compile results from employee engagement surveys with follow-up workshops.
You will also in your manager role act upon budget related activities as well as be a contact person to involved suppliers.
Alongside with the experience as a manager you use your competence as system administrator when coaching, leading, and coordinating the team to ensure stable, up to date and healthy systems to serve NENT groups various services ranging from streaming to linear TV.
The team works with all three pillars of infrastructure (compute, network, and storage) with responsibilities of, but not limited to:
• A 1000+ core OpenStack farm, backed by Ceph
• The internal networks and most company Internet traffic (we're a LIR, using four large ISPs)
• A multi-petabyte storage supporting the NENT group
• We build and manage the streaming platform where all Viaplay Sports and streaming TV channels originate (ingest, caches, load balancers). We orchestrate most of it using Salt.
The journey ahead
NENT is a mature company with decades-old roots while at the same time entering an expansion phase, which places the Content Infrastructure team in a highly diverse situation. As a team responsible for large parts of NENT's core infrastructure, there is a need to both provide a rock-solid base while at the same time research and implement new technologies.
The team is quite an autonomous group where technology decisions are made within the team and granting a high degree of freedom, but also the responsibility to do our due diligence.
The team strives to be sysadmin full stack with generalists of all field where the specialists in the team drives the change in their specialized area.
What we are looking for
To be our next colleague, we believe that you have been working as a system administrator or infrastructure architect, about 5-10 years and have a proven track record of successfully managing a sysadmin team.
You have experiences in managing a team from both a personnel perspective as well as planning and coordinating the work accordingly to follow a prioritized backlog. In this role communication skills and service mindedness are key as we communicate and help stakeholders out in a daily manner where you will be the front figure of the team.
We think that you are goal-oriented, driven, accurate with quality as peer, analytical and service-conscious. You are a good listener and have a native interest in mentoring and coaching of a team.
Ideal candidates also meet the following technical requirements:
• Deep Linux knowledge
• General knowledge in knowing how to script, preferably in Python and/or shell
• Knowledge about and experience with the OSI model
• Knowledge about the difference between block and file in a filesystem
• General knowledge in managing a various amount of different hardware
What we're saying with the above is that you need a lot of experience in different fields, but it's not necessary to be an expert in any of them.
Bonus requirements that will make you stand out from the rest:
• Experience with Docker and Kubernets [and related technologies]
• Experience with OpenStack
• Ceph
• ELK stack
• Saltstack, Ansible or similar tools for automation and control
