Industrial Ph.D.Candidate - Vehicle Dynamics
As Industrial Ph.D. Candidate "Correlation of subjective assessments and objective measures" within the department Vehicle Dynamics and Active Safety Centre you will be a part of our post-graduate program. The intention is to develop technical specialists, secure competence supply by networking with academies, contribute to Volvo products by close connection between research, advanced engineering and car projects contribute to Volvos reputation as high-tech & research oriented company by facilitating recruitment of highly educated personnel. The target is to develop national and international networks within strategic areas, reinforce a scientific approach within product development, initiate research projects connected to future technology and create carriers of strategic competence. The Vehicle Dynamics & Calibration section develops, evaluates and verifies the attributes Ride, Handling and Steering including calibration of stability systems with the aid of subjective and objective (measurements and CAE) methods.
The aim of the research project is to strengthen the knowledge concerning driver/vehicle interaction and the connection between subjective assessment and objective measures. The research on subjective and objective correlations will enable an efficient development process concerning vehicle dynamics, active safety systems and how the drivers interact with the vehicle.
The Ph.D. student will be focusing on the area of non-linear links in order to gain more fundamental knowledge that can be used for new intelligent vehicle system concepts and to build tools for a more efficient evaluation process.
The first five years of employment will be dedicated to the research in co-operation with KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Division of Vehicle Dynamics, in Stockholm. After dissertation, the Ph.D. will take on a strategically important role related to the area of expertise within Research & Development at Volvo Cars in Göteborg. The research students spend 80% of their time with their research and 20% with issues determined by Volvo Cars.
To successfully accomplish the project, you should have very strong analytical skills, act independently and take initiatives. You are at least M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, with emphasis in multibody/vehicle dynamics. You must have a valid driver's license and an excellent English language level, verbally and in writing. You should also be a good listener and have strong communication skills. Meritorious is previous professional experience in the areas of multibody dynamics, vehicle dynamics, vehicle/driver interaction and driving skills.
